A Maltese cross constructed of copper plated bronze; the obverse with a central medallion bearing the crowned cipher of King Ludwig II within a border in the form of a buckled belt inscribed with lettering reading “Merenti” (Latin - “Merit”); the reverse with a central medallion bearing a crowned Bavarian lion within a border in the form of a buckled belt with numbers reading “1866”; suspended from a structure composed of arabesques with crossed swords; accompanied by its period original ribbon; Accompanied by its case of issue; constructed of heavy cardstock, with a light blue faux leather (leatherette) exterior; with a lined interior lid, a recessed medal bed, an intact fabric hinge cover, a functional clasp closure, and a functional exterior metal hinge; in overall very fine condition.
