A Kuban Shield.
Constructed of bronzed magnetic metal, the obverse consisting of a stylized map of the Kuban region, topped by an inscription of "KUBAN" and a Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika with field-grey wool liner and partially-intact reverse paper liner,unmarked, measuring 52.78mm(w)x61.70mm(h),good condition. The Kuban Shield was instituted on September 21th, 1943,as the last official campaign Shield to see production and issue during the war. The Shield was awarded to military personnel who honorably fought in the Kuban bridge head from February to October 1943.In order to receive the Shield, an individual had to have taken part in at least one major engagement, or had to have served in the theatre of operations for at least 60 days, if soldier was wounded, the Shield could be awarded for a shorter service time. Army/Heer Shields were awarded with a green cloth backing, Air Force/Luftwaffe with a blue cloth backing. Panzer Units with a black cloth backing.
