A textbook example of a SS 4- Year Long Service Award;in blackened bronze;unmarked,but these medals were produced exclusively by Deschler & Sohn of Munich and Lorenz of Unterreichenbach.The SS Long Service Awards were first introduced on 30 January 1938.Four classes of the award were designed by Professor Karl Diebitsch of Munich. 4th Class:(4 Years Loyal Service) was the only class that was not authorized for award to officer personnel of the SS. The presentation case for 4 Year Service Award is a black cardboard box with silver SS Sigrunen impressed on the lid. The interior is mouse- gray or cream flocking. According to predominant historian, Christopher Ailsby,the awards ceased to be awarded at the end of 1941.
