The Italo - German Campaign Medal with Award Certificate.
An Italian designer by name of De Marchis produced the design of the Italo-German Campaign Medal in order that the Italian government could honor the military deeds of Rommel's Africa Korps. While not an official German award, it was considered a foreign decoration. The first awards were rendered in early 1942,and Medal achieved unofficial recognition. Due to the shortage of war materials, three variants of the Medal were produced. The initial pattern produced in 1942 was made from solid bronze, later of pot metal with a bronze plating and zinc.We offering zinc variant with its original ribbon and ribbon bar in excellent condition and and hard to find award certificate. Due to Italy's independent withdrawal from the war and subsequent surrender, Germany, in an order dated 29 March 1944,prohibited the further wearing of any Italian decorations, medals or badges, Specific reference was made to the Italo-German Campaign Medal in Africa.
