As part of the continuing campaign to win over the military, Hitler introduced a series of long service medals and Crosses in recognition of loyal and good service in the Wehrmacht. The service awards were instituted on 16 March 1936, exactly one year after Hitler introduced compulsory military service throughout Germany. The service awards were designed by Professor Richard Klein of Munich. Medal suspended from a cornflower blue ribbon with a metal National emblem device, for the members of the Army and Navy.
