(Deutsches Kreuz in Gold)Instituted by Hitler on September 28,1941,some 30000 Gold version were awarded. Cross in excellent condition, the reverse of the pinback stamped with code of "20" for maker C.F.Zimmermann.The complex nature of the German Cross lay in its construction. Measuring 63.5 mm. from point to point, five pieces (excluding the heavy hinge/pin/clasp)make up the whole. Each successive layer hid the mechanism for attaching the one above it.The parts included a concave backplate in the shape of an eight point star,topped by an identical star which Measuring 59 mm.edge to edge.Next came disk 41mm. across, with an red enamel border 5.5mm.wide.The red border coverd by the gold wreath with the date "1941" representing the year of institution.The wreath circles inlaid enameled swastika 30mm. diagonally from top to bottom.No parts are magnetic. It is a very well made Badge with substantial pin and clasp combination. On the reverse rivets in sets of four. Heavy version weighing 62.4 grams. Since the German Cross is such a large decoration, many soldiers preferred wearing it in a cloth variation.
